Navy and Coral Wedding-Newport RI
Real Bride: Seaside Nautical: Navy & Coral: Lisa Sammons Events
It was our absolute pleasure working with this wonderful couple.
At LSE, not only are we cognizant of our clients’ budget, but we also get to know our clients’ style, taste preferences and vision for their wedding. Knowing Courtney and Stuart for several years before the planning process gave us a jump on the process and made the planning relaxed and easy.
This New England Bride &Groom hail from NH, but with family ties in Newport, RI and CT, NY, VT, and MA, they chose a centrally located venue for their wedding weekend. Newport’s coastline made it an easy choice for the B&G.
Courtney and Stuart are 1 voice when it comes to their communications, finishing each others’ sentences in our first meeting – questions like “What are your colors” they both responded, “Navy and Coral” which as you can see from the above photo, suited them both equally well.
Both Courtney and Stuart both come from a long line of sailing families, so the nautical theme and being near the water was very important to them. Stuart’s taste being a bit more formal/traditional and Courtney’s being elegant with a mix of whimsy; we had a lot of fun bridging the 2 styles.
Anchoring the Wedding Day with Navy and a mix of coral flowers is where we started in the design process with Courtney and Stu. Noting the flowers had to be top-notch; LSE’s number 1 choice for the job was Stoneblossom Floral Design. Fantastic to work with at any budget, this floral design company’s attention to detail and organization compares to no one. They were a pleasure to work with from the start of our process to the end.
Courtney’s Cake design was all her own from research she did online Simple, Beautiful, Understated, exactly her style….. executed beautifully by Confectionary Designs of Newport, RI.
Not only were their cakes gorgeous, and just what Courtney wanted, the Cake was (vanilla sponge with a tiramisu filling) absolutely delicious!
LSE continued the Navy design anchor in the tablescapes and the majority of the reception details. We enlisted Exquisite Events for the Nautical Lighting, Tent Walls and Drapery, along with the focal point of the tent – the wainscoted tent wall.
In our first meeting with Exquisite Events, Kelli suggested shifting the focal point of the tent from the dance floor to the side of the tent, and building the wainscoted wall. Giftable had planned to design custom Signable Oars for the couple’s guest book, and we thought it would be fun to hang them as part of the Nautical décor. Exquisite Events made that happen, along with building the wall, including beautiful drapery to soften the sides, and hanging the detailed roping on the focal point wall.
Kelli had a wonderful detailed element up her sleeve during our design meeting. She had Ralph Lauren Nautical Stripe border material that she suggested banking up against the crown molding of the tent.
It was the perfect touch and really added to the décor. Exquisite Events also provided the soft seating strategically placed throughout LSE’s tent design layout. EE is another top-notch vendor and such a pleasure to work with throughout the planning months prior to the wedding.
We went to Rentals Unlimited for the majority of the rentals, linens, chairs and tables. With the crisp Navy and White details, it was a no brainer having Crisp white china and silver with Reidel Glassware hitting all the B & G’s style notes. Be Our Guest Rentals had fantastic navy bengaline bands that LSE lovingly hand-pinned for 4 hours to each tablecloth. Then we cut 300ft of White Cotton Rope into pieces and strung them through the grommets to add the subtle nautical feel the couple wanted. Additional items that added to the tablescapes and tent were provided by Giftable Designs, Table numbers, Menus, Escort & Placecards, Signage, Custom Water Bottles. GD also made the cutest little hand-cut paper circle tags with adorable nautical “knots” that LSE hand tied to the venue’s chocolate chip cookies as a departure snack for the guests before they boarded their trolley back to downtown Newport.
Stoneblossom created the boutonnieres and included some subtle knot/roping details tying (pun:)) in the couple’s nautical theme.

We’ll be writing about this one again soon!
