Lavender & Pantone Violet Tulip! Let’s start with a little inspiration. The many subtle shades this wonderful purple color are all beautifully captured in this fabulous image: “Lavender Sea” by Evgeni Dinev below. We’ve linked the photo to Fine Art America website in case you would like to purchase the image!
Lavender is such a romantic color and & Violet lends a certain contemporary feel to the hue. Either choice gives a beautiful design base of any wedding. Choosing any Lavender, Violet or deep Purple for your bridesmaid dresses will work in any length and season, adding instant elegance, especially in chiffon. If you are looking for a brighter violet, or deeper purple hue for your bridesmaid dresses, keep reading! We’ll start off with lavender first and progress into Violet-Purple. We have several different Purple collage bridesmaid outfit combinations included in this article which we hope will give you the inspiration you need for your wedding. We also have a previous “African Violet” article here in our archives if you haven’t come across it yet.
If your vision is to keep the look traditional & “simply romantic” as illustrated in the above image, it’s easy to just add a simple metallic shoe to carry on the elegant feel created by the chiffon fabric in lavender.
Choosing a dress in traditional wedding fabric like chiffon, silk duponi, or linen is lovely and traditional.
Real Wedding Planner Style Tip: Keep the shoes in a muted metallic allows room in the design to introduce the bright “Pop” of color in the bridesmaid bouquet. Using a traditional dress and bouquet style, and adding a contemporary shoe “design” brings the look forward and on trend, even with a traditional choice in style of bridesmaid dress and bouquet.
Real Wedding Planner Style & Design Tip: Keep the look understated by choosing a bridesmaid dress in a soft muted fabric and just add the Coral “pop” to the bouquet! Let the flowers do the talking! Choosing a cute ballet flat with this look will make your bridesmaids comfortable & happy during reception time!
Choosing a traditional dress style version of a Lavender-Violet bridesmaid dress still keeps the elegant-romantic style. You can bring the look forward to “trendy” by adding a pop of color in your bridesmaid shoe. If you are not sure of this idea, play around a little with it before deciding. Remember to keep the shoe in a muted tone similar to the hue of your bridesmaid dress as illustrated above. In that way, it won’t overwhelm your design eye if your style leans towards the conservative. Keeping the florals simple and in the same color-wheel as the dress, keeps the look pulled together and the focus on the Bride.
Introducing texture to your bridesmaid’s ensemble is easy, especially if you choose a bridesmaid dress in a flat fabric with clean dress lines. With the beautiful clean lines of this strapless bridesmaid dress, you can easily introduce subtle texture in the shoe and the bouquet. Sophisticated and traditional, this look would work beautifully for Spring, Summer, Autumn, or a Winter wedding.
If you love lavender and your Style is contemporary, try adding a trendy-styled dress to give the look a little more edge. Pairing it with a Teal shoe (remember simple lines then in accessories!) as in the above collage is beautifully.
Real Wedding Planner Tip: Remember… simple lines in the shoe, and simplify the bouquet… this allows for the addition of another color (in this case Teal) into the look so it doesn’t overwhelm your bridesmaids’ “look”.
Love Vintage but having trouble sourcing the “real thing” for your bridal party? …..Try adding a Contemporary Skater Dress -Style dress with a vintage-style fabric! This Lavender dress from Modcloth is adorable.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: Try Polyvore, Etsy & Modcloth for leads to source your unique “vintage” bridesmaid dresses.
Real Wedding Planner Style Tip: Choosing a print fabric bridesmaid dress is such a unique choice. Try picking up the accent colors in the fabric and use them in the bouquet and shoe to give the look balance. To keep your bridesmaids’ ensemble and bridal party “look” from appearing too “busy”. Lisa Sammons Events recommends keeping the florals in 1 unified theme. Use the same flower and color in the bouquets to anchor the design of the entire bridesmaid/bridal party ensemble. This keeps the focus on the bride… even when using a beautiful bright pop of Red as in this Style, Inspiration, & Design collage.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: If you are still having trouble sourcing quantities in Vintage bridesmaid dresses for your bridal party, look for dresses with a Vintage looking fabric….overlays, lace, and prints speak “Vintage”! and will give you that eclectic feel you are looking for. Remember to keep the bouquet in soft tones mirroring the hue of the dress. This will keep your bridesmaids’ ensemble’s base “look” romantic, but your “pop” will be in the actual design of the dress without overwhelming the eye with the bridesmaid overall “look”.
Are you a “Blingy” – “Sparkly” kind of Bride?
Real Wedding Planner Advice: You can do ANYTHING you want… there are no rules, this is YOUR wedding!! There are ways to make a “Blingy” bridesmaid ensemble look Traditional, Elegant, and even with Color! We created the above Style,Inspiration, & Design collage to illustrate how you can have Lavender-Violet Color and still have the Sparkle you love! (and not take the focus away from the Bride:))
Real Wedding Planner Style Tip: Keep the jewelry to a minimum with this fabric and dress design. The sequins in the dress are enough movement for the bridesmaids’ look. Having a subtle “sparkle” in the shoe will “act” as jewelry without making the ensemble look overly “blinged out”. Just simple earrings for your girls and at the most an understated, elegant bracelet is all you’ll need to complete this ensemble. Choosing a traditional design in the shoe allows for extra “bling” and gives anchor to the ensemble’s design.
Still can’t decide on your “colors” but love Purple? Try using the Purple as an accent color in your bridesmaids’ bouquets! In the above Style, Inspiration, & Design Collage we paired the above 1 shoulder draped Alice & Olivia dress in Soft, Pastel, Hemlock Green with a pretty Jimmy Choo Gladiator-Style Strappy Sandal. Using a Purple bouquet is a great pop of color for this look, just remember to choose SOFT flowers for the bouquet to mirror the fabric and style of the dress. This will tie the whole look together with “materials” rather than actual matchy-matchy colors. This bridesmaid ensemble look is so romantic!
Choosing a a soft lavender-violet-purple color does not mean you have to be prim, proper, or traditional in your Style either! If your Style is Rustic-Country-Chic, Lavender & Violet both work beautifully!
Real Wedding Planner Style Tip: Keep your fabrics and florals in traditional textures and it will allow for the contrast of the Rustic choice of cowboy boot with your dresses!
For Summer months, you have a little more freedom for outside weddings. If your Style is Rustic-Casual, choose a cute Lavender-Violet-Purple sundress! Add some rustic cowboy boots and you’re in business! When choosing this look, remember to keep the jewelry and bouquet understated so as not add another design element to the ensemble.
Using the mixed-neckline/bridesmaid dress look in this bridal party is beautiful in the Violet, Lavender and any Purple hue! Keep the hairstyles carefree & the jewelry to a minimum. Keeping the bridesmaid dresses’ length similar and the bouquet in one color allows for the extra movement depicted in the different style & subtle hue differences in the dresses (and shoes).
Real Wedding Planner Style Tip: Choosing 1 solid color for bridesmaids’ floral bouquets draws the eye directly to the similarities of the bridesmaid ensembles as a whole unit, and then back immediately to the Bride, as it should be!!
Whatever Lavender, Violet – Purple Bridesmaid Dress Style you choose, remember to Have fun with it!
