What Happens if It Rains on My Wedding Day ?
Real Wedding Planner Advice.... Don’t let the weather make you crazy.
Let your wedding planner worry about the weather. You can’t change it, you can only plan for it.
Whether you hire a wedding planner or not, it’s always good to have a “plan B”.
Think of it as an insurance policy … “rain” insurance …put a contingency plan in place… a “rain plan”.
Trust me, you can’t control the weather 🙁
However, this is how you take the worry away!…
If you are planning an outside ceremony, plan for rain. AND SUN!! of course…
So, your #1 plan A is to have a beautiful country-rustic-vintage wedding out under the blue sky… absolute perfection… in the right weather!
As the bride and groom, you are not only the guests of honor on your wedding day, but you are also the co-hosts – even if your parents are financing your wedding. That said, you really need to think about your guests. Rain or Shine.
Even if there isn’t a cloud in the sky, consider the time of year, the direction of the sun, and even in the most beautiful weather ….how that can impact a guests’ comfort at your wedding. (see the little tent on the right – behind our Newport, RI bride in the image above? That was our “rain” plan tent. And because of the time of day and direct sun, the families decided to put the tent up Rain or Shine to give pre-ceremony shade to guests before they were seated. And it worked out perfectly for cocktail hour after the ceremony as well.
The guests were very happy to have a shady spot to stand under after sitting in the sun for 30-40 minutes during ceremony time.
As Real Wedding Planners, we always suggest a little shelter even in the best of weather. You don’t want your guests getting sunburned before your even walk down the aisle. Remember they will arrive early (fingers crossed:)) and will then most likely sit for 30 minutes waiting for you to arrive for your walk down the aisle.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: Order a water station or at the very least bottled water on each guest’s ceremony seat.
If you decide to go without a tent for the ceremony, then we suggest including information about the ceremony site on your wedding website. That way guests can make sure they are adequately prepared for direct sun by either applying sunscreen or bringing at hat.
Another thing to consider is if your wedding is in the middle of a field, (which is AMAZING!!!) but make sure you suggest to the ladies to wear flats or bring their wellies.
They can always change into their Jimmy Choos or Christian Louboutins at the reception site.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: If it does rain on your wedding day, just roll with it.
There is nothing you can do about it! Smile and know your Plan B is in place.
And the photos will be AMAZING. Your Photographer will try extra hard for you if it rains, believe me!
If you are a savvy bride & groom, then you have hired your wedding planner and they take all of that worry on their shoulders.
In general, the best advice we give our brides is to just go with the flow on your wedding day, no matter what crops up, the worst case scenario is … you get a rainbow out of it ………………ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How AMAZING would that be?!!!
