Rustic-Country-Chic-Red Lion Inn, MA
and Real Bride DIY tips from Lisa Sammons Events
All brides know planning that a wedding is no simple task, even if you are ultra-detail oriented like this fabulous Country-Rustic-Chic bride. This September bride left no detail out for her wedding! Luckily, this lovely bride had the support and assistance from her wonderful groom and family to help her with the production of her DIY details….
Starting off with the venue (more pics below) – Planning a Rustic-Country-Chic wedding is easy in September when you have a wonderful country back-drop in a venue like the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset, Massachussetts! In this article we’ll walk you through the day as this thoughtful September bride envisioned it….and along the way, we’ll share her DIY ideas and LSEs Real Wedding Planning Advice too!
And please don’t miss the BONUS Real Wedding Planner Advice at the end of this article: DIY vs. Hiring Wedding Vendors, it’s good info!
How to greet your wedding guests: Starting off with wedding signs….The Bride and her sister made all the signage themselves!! This creative bride bought, cut, stained, stenciled – and painted all the signs herself! And her sister designed and created the custom chalkboard – adorable!
Real Wedding Planner Advice: Save your money on ceremony programs and do just what this savvy September bride did! One greeting sign at the ceremony area sets the tone and theme of the day and doubles as a fantastic decor piece for the ceremony giving anchor to the ceremony site upon guest entry.
Simple, Rustic, Country… Adorable!
The Groomsmen wore black, with simple waistcoats and a beautiful pop of Violet-Purple in their ties that gives their look just the right amount of country-chic.
Love the long bridesmaid dresses! Real Wedding Planner Advice: Choosing long bridemaid dressses is a simple way to give this Rustic-Country wedding just the right amount of traditional elegance.
Ceremony: Real Wedding Planner Advice: Going without ushers is perfectly fine for your ceremony!
As this thoughtful bride remembered, as the host you want to make sure your guests are comfortable upon arrival…Help your guests by giving them either ushers or signage so they know what to do and where to go. A good analogy that we always use with our LSE clients is: “Put yourself in your guests’ shoes… when you arrive to a wedding or event location that you have never been to before… how do you feel? You do want someone to greet you and gently direct you to your location or seat? ….The answer is yes!
Whether it be a person directing guests, or signage”, it might seem an unnecessary detail to some, but it is about being a hospitable host and welcoming your guests to the start of your wedding day. Without you being physically there to greet your guests yourself….no matter how “low-key” you want your day to be, you want that “job” to be done in your absence whether by ushers or by signage.
Reception: Guest Tables and Seating Chart: Real Wedding Planner Advice: This is another fantastic way to save money and to add another creative decor item to your wedding reception. And yes! This piece even with DIY bride production costs money, believe me. Remember: time = money. If you have the time (and the skill!) then creating all of these fabulous details is the way to go. But as a designer, and using this adorable DIY seating chart for example, LSE can tell you, this did not just take 5 minutes to design, create, and produce!
This creative bride sourced the antique barn window, sanded it, painted it, attached the burlap to the backing, and then after creating her seating chart, designed the plan for the layout. Now we haven’t even mentioned the actual writing and stenciling for the the table numbers, the special pens or money for paint, etc…Just this decor piece was a big project (for anyone) But the way it saves money, DIY or sourced to a graphic designer is.: It’s functional.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: Remember to try to plan your decor items to be functional items (that have a job) and to add a touch of decor to the design of your event, just as this savvy & talented bride did!
What a gorgeous choice of wedding venue (Red Lion Inn, Cohassett, MA) and perfect for this bride and groom’s Country-Rustic-Chic Wedding. This beautiful image from Tara Photography captures all of the hard work this wonderful bride and groom did on their wedding planning!
Love the contrast of the Country-Rustic Barn and how this venue installed the chic and elegant chandeliers in the wedding reception space. Perfection.
Country-Rustic-Reception: No detail left out, this Country-Rustic bride made all the cute table signs, and did the centerpieces herself as well! And LOVE! the burlap and lace detail on the vases – it works beautifully in the overall contrast of the reception room with the antique wood barn boards and the elegant chandeliers.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: When you plan your DIY projects – enlist your fiance and family to help! This bride’s wonderful groom cut all the wood for the favors and centerpieces AND he made the table numbers out of cedar shakes. The FOB sliced all the corks for the name tag holders, and as the bride noted, the corks she saved from wine she & her groom consumed together! Love it!
Adding the slice of tree trunk to the base of the reception table floral centerpieces gave them just the right height in the room and wedding reception event design.
Not only did this September bride create all the signage, but she did all the design and printing for her menus as well! This sweet country-bride even sourced all her wedding flowers from her own garden, including the little sprigs of lavender she placed lovingly with the menu card on each guests’ place-setting.
Gift Table: Tying in more of the vintage barn windows, the bride attached vintage family wedding photos and placed them on one side of the table. To give the gift table balance in its design, and bring “her” day into the table, she created another collage, but this time, with photos of the 2 of them… the Bride & Groom of the day!
What a nice touch, and gives an “activity” and conversation piece for the weddings guests too.
We recently had the pleasure of working with this fabulous September bride a few weeks ago on her sister’s bridal shower at Bedrock Gardens in NH. Working on the planning with her was an honor and also great fun to see a real DIY Bride in action. This MA Bride left no detail out ~ and it showed in her wedding as well!
REAL WEDDING PLANNER ADVICE: BONUS INFO for all DIY Brides 🙂
Real Wedding Planner Advice: DIY vs. hiring wedding vendors: Whether you hire vendors, graphic designers, or if you create the items yourself, it’s about the same price at the end of the day.
Planning your wedding whether you have a wedding planner or not is emotional! (in a good way:)) As a wedding planners we know you might just want to make some items yourself, or with your family. Lisa Sammons Events LOVES to work with DIY brides, as they really make the wedding their own. It’s your day, and remember, no matter what – the details & vision is your’s.
As real wedding planners, LSE always wants you to have relaxing wedding planning process… so remember… your time is important, especially during your ENGAGEMENT – you will want to enjoy that special time with your fiance too…not just on your wedding planning and related projects.
FOR ALL DIY BRIDES – This is important!! 🙂 Real Wedding Planner Advice: You’ll have many special celebrations to squeeze into your already busy schedule during your engagement year…. So if you have an idea for a decor detail in your wedding… explain them to your wedding planner, and ask them for a quote for the same item that you were thinking of DIY’ing….If it works in your overall budget, then choose to save your time (and sanity!) over creating it yourself.
And remember, the #1 reason to hire a wedding planner is to save you money, whether you are DIY or not, we can negotiate the big items for you… venue site fees, band/dj fees, contracts, etc. This will also save you time too… if you are creative and really want to design & create the decor details yourself, hiring a planner to do the “big” items will save you the time you need… and will save you money as well.
