Navy Blue and Neutrals Wedding Portsmouth NH-Part 2
Real Wedding by Lisa Sammons Events at Strawbery Banke Museum, Portsmouth, NH
Here’s part 2 of LSE’s August Wedding – from Portsmouth, NH. We had so much fun designing & planning with this Massachusetts bride & groom! We’ll have a part 3 too… more about wedding style coming up next. We thought we’d break up the wedding style with a few of the wedding design details with this segment (part 2).
During our first meeting with this stylish bride, we noted that she and the groom’s overall style preferences were clean lines and neutral colors. The groom knew he wanted the groomsmen in Navy suits from our first meeting together, and since they had a nice sized bridal party, navy naturally became the design base & anchor color for their wedding. The bride found the perfect Champagne J.Crew lace overlay dresses for her bridesmaids to nail down her wedding colors. For accents in the reception, the bride had gold mercury glass on her mind… so we were able to create a wedding color swatch for the B&G directly after our 1st wedding planning meeting to start off the wedding design process & to show how their wedding color choices would work perfectly together.
Next up, the bride & groom did not have any particular “theme” they wanted to impose on the wedding design (ie. nautical, vintage, or rustic-country, etc) The bride and groom were just about “clean lines” and color, so LSE just focused on prelinary design ideas with color with them and started scheduling their pre-wedding tasks (i.e. venue scouts & Engagement shoot).
During the venue scouts for their engagement shoot and ceremony location, the couple were drawn to picket fences for backdrops several times…this “design” note naturally evolved into their “theme” when we started to talk about details in the reception. Picket fences and the historic buildings became the backdrop of their ceremony and reception site!
With venues in place, we asked F as in Flowers to design & install a beautiful garden rose filled garland with just the right amount of greenery to give their ceremony space a “wedding” feel…
Wedding ceremony perfection!
Now on to the reception space….flashback to booking the wedding venue the 12 months earlier….
The bride and groom wanted to book their favorite restaurant for the night and introduce it to their family and friends for their wedding. Unknowingly at the time, more picket fence accents fit in perfectly with the future wedding design plans! And the exterior lounge furniture in ivory/neutrals was perfect!
Flash forward to 1 month before the wedding…. With the change in season, the restaurant updated their exterior lounge furniture cushions to bright fire engine red! Eeeek!!!! We already had all the navy, ivory, and champagne throw pillows reserved at the rental company for the bride & groom….
Luckily LSE does site visits a few times during the wedding planning process and stumbled upon this venue color change with time to troubleshoot. We troubleshot by purchasing muslin and wrapping all the venues lounge cushions in ivory to bring it back to the bride and groom’s wedding color palette.
Real Wedding Planner Advice: Whether you have a wedding planner or not, visit your wedding venue site a few times during your wedding planning year. If you are a destination wedding and unable to stop by your venue from time to time, simply ask your wedding planner to request/take real-time photos to make sure their are no surprise “issues” before your wedding.
Keeping with the bride & grooms Navy & Neutrals (and to save them some money in the flower department), LSE was able to source gold-toned mercury glass that went perfectly with the navy vases from our rental companies. Creamy-white Ranunculous, Hydrangea, Garden Roses and Navy Viburnum berries were the brides flower choices for her guest tables and reception accent spaces
Custom designed touches really make weddings personal. This talented groom sketched the front of the historic venue’s for their invitation envelope liner and for their custom water bottles, and went right along with the “branding” for their wedding.
Down to the tiniest detail~ LSE sourced the cutest picket fence planter box and attached a “CARDS” sign for the bride & groom’s gift table. It was just the right size too!
The bride had the BEST idea for her wedding guest favors… Cold Brew Bottled Coffee. Keeping it local was very important to this thoughtful bride and groom, so the coffee was sourced from a new business that recently opened in downtown Portsmouth. Tying everything together literally, and keeping their “brand” cohesive, the bride had little “Just for you” tags made in the same font for this creative favor. Real Wedding Planner Advice: When choosing your wedding favor, try to create a favor that is functional, which will encourages wedding guests to take them at the end of the night. Guests were able to enjoy this favor the next day upon rising in their hotel rooms (and to help with the “morning after” the wedding.
Birdseye shot from the venue’s second – Twinkly lights wrapped the beautiful wood beams creating a little more of a celebration feel to the restaurant. LSE added a little of the bride’s requested mercury glass to the mantel and F as in Flowers created a beautiful mantel and fireplace hearth piece as the focal point of the entryway as guests entered the interior reception space.
Another special request from the bride & groom – sparkly lights! The venue is a beautiful historic building, but a little on the masculine side design-wise. Adding the florals to the fireplace and throughout the space transformed it to be wedding-romantic! And carrying the sparkly lights through and over the entire 1st floor was the perfect lighting for the dance floor too.
Next up! …. Part 3 – More wedding style!
